the home of guinness. and leprechauns.

20 Jun

Last weekend, well, two weekends ago now, I took a trip to Ireland!  The country is fabulous and I can’t wait to go back.  During my three day there, I wandered the streets of Dublin, did a one day “jaunt” over to Galway and the west coast, got certified at the Guinness factory to pour the perfect pint of the black stuff (it’s actually not black – it’s ruby red) and undertook my own fruitless search for leprechauns.

And now for some photos:

listlessness, scottish ale, films & learning to just do it already

As you may or may not have noticed, I haven’t been blogging as much lately.  Actually, at all.  It’s not that I’ve forgotten about the blog; but that I’ve been listless lately.  And I’m thinking that has to do with being homesick.  Yes, I’ll admit it, I’m homesick.  I can’t think of any other way to describe it, and I’ve been really unwilling to admit to it.  It seems rather vulgar to me to admit that here I am, in beautiful green (and grey) Scotland, with a decent flat, a decent job, and not a real problem in sight, and I’m sick for home.

Wait, maybe that is a real problem.  Maybe 5 months away from home with no real plans is my limit.  Unfortunately, for better or worse, I am here for another few months.  And let’s be realistic here, it’s not really for worse is it?

What I need is a more involved life over here.  I need to just start doing things, which should be really easy considering the next few weeks promise to be jam-packed with incredibly fun things to do: I’m going to Dublin next weekend to drink some of the black stuff and troll around Ireland, the weekend after that is the Scottish Beer Festival (hells yeah), and the Edinburgh Film Festival is here this month!  So life is looking up!  Maybe some beer and movies are all I need to kick this bout of homesickness in the ass,  and I just need to remember that something is better than nothing, and done is better than perfect.  Hell, it was my motto all through university 😉
